India fell short of 4 runs while chasing a mammoth 212 runs in the series decider against New Zealand resulting in a 2-1 series loss.

India lost Shikhar Dhawan early in the chase but Vijay Shankar scored a flamboyant 43 off 28 balls to keep India in the game.

Rishabh Pant also flashed his bat to score a quickfire 28 but fell soon. 

Soon, Rohit and Dhoni were also back to pavilion with Krunal Pandya and Dinesh Karthik being the last recognized batting pair at the crease.

They did well to take the contest to the last over when they required 16 off 6 balls but Tim Southee bowled well to keep the Indians restricted.

New Zealand took the series 2-1 and they were all smiles with the victory over the giant Indian side.
