Independence Day 2021: President to address nation today at 7pm, check here the list of awardees

President of India Ram Nath Kovind would deliver his address to the nation on Saturday, on the eve of 75th Independence Day. The address will begin at 7 pm and would be broadcasted on All India Radio and Doordarshan. 

The next morning, on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would unfold the national tricolor flag and would address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort in New Delhi. It is for the eighth consecutive time that Narendra Modi would address the nation as Prime Minister of India. Expectedly, his speech would begin at 7:30 am. 

Due to Covid-19, a few people would be present at the Red Fort.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the list of awardees. As per the statement released by the MHA, this year, recipients would be awarded medals like Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation, President's Home Guards & Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service, President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, President's Police Medal for Gallantry, Police Medal for Gallantry, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and Fire Service Medals. 

This year, 628 personnel have received the Gallantry Awards. The official statement read, “Among the majority of these awardees, 1 PPMG each is being awarded to the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). 398 personnel have been decorated for their gallant action in the Jammu and Kashmir region, 155 for their gallant action in the Left-Wing Extremism affected areas, and 27 for their gallant action in the northeast.

Among the awardees, 256 are from the J&K Police, 151 from the CRPF, 20 from the ITBP, and 67, 25 and 20 from the Odisha, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh Police respectively. The remainder is from other states/UTs and Central Armed Police Forces.”

On this Independence Day, six Army personnel awarded Shaurya Chakra, 4 Bar to Sena Medal, 116 Sena Medal, and 28 Mention in Dispatches for their acts of gallantry in different operations. 

In 2021, 662 personnel would be awarded by Police Medal for Meritorious service.
