The global gap in travel freedom is at its highest point ever and continues to expand as a result of entry restrictions imposed in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Residence and citizenship planning firm Henley & Partners released the Passport Index which ranks all passports based on the number of countries to which their holders can travel without a visa. The index, on the other hand, ignores the temporary travel limitations imposed by countries as a result of Covid-19.

With a visa-free score of 192, Japan and Singapore are at the top of the Henley Passport Index, meaning that holders of these two countries' passports can travel to 192 countries without a visa.

India's ranking, on the other hand, has slipped by six places. The country which was ranked 84th last year now has dropped to 90th place with Indian passport holders being able to travel visa-free to 58 countries. India shares rank with those of Burkina Faso and Tajikistan.

Pakistan on the other hand ranks below North Korea with a 31 visa-free score. Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen have some of the weakest passports.
