“Influential people get better projects, it is insulting: Rashmi Desai on people differentiating between TV & Bollywood actors

The actor says she feels hurt when people differentiate between TV actors and Bollywood actors.

Speaking on how the lines are blurring between mediums and there are no boundaries for actors to showcase their talent. But Rashmi Desai says the ground reality is still very different. The actress believes that she gets categorised for some platforms. “I feel as an actress when I get categorized for certain platforms and they say that yeh toh TV actress hai, toh bura lagta hai. I feel bad that people don’t want to conveniently see the good work that I have done and the good projects that I have been a part of and the good people I have worked with. They categorize me for their convenience and comfort,” the 35-year-old shares.

The actor, who has worked in films, TV and the web, is primarily known for her stint on the small screen and is a popular household face. 

Talking about the prejudices that exist against TV actors, Desai film industry is open for new people but TV actors don’t get work as they come from the small screen. “Influential people get better projects and better space. It is wrong. I don’t like it. It is humiliating and insulting. We are actors and as actors, we can explore every medium, and should not be categorized,” she added.

Even TV actors do not respect other Television actors and treat you like you are not good for the place you are in, claims the actress, adding that  “if a film actors come they give preference to them but it is something I have learnt that you have to demand it and when you demand, they do it. In TV, people have respect but they don’t demand."

Rashmi has been a part of Hindi, Bhojpuri and Gujarati films, says she feels hurt when people differentiate between TV actors and Bollywood actors. 

Very few actors have been successful in Bollywood. Many fail to make their mark in Bollywood on which the actor thinks that Bollywood has a different flavour. 

“But actors have to be very patient. Sometimes everything is finalized and at the last moment because of a call, you get replaced and somebody else is finalized. But hats off to such TV actors.. .. who make a transition from TV to films. Now I am happy that people are open to taking actors from TV in web and films,” she concludes.
