Onir, the filmmaker, recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the Army's rejection of his script, which featured a gay army officer. Onir, on the other hand, praised filmmaker Harshvardhan Kulkarni's film after seeing Rajkummar Rao play a gay police officer in the recently released trailer of Badhaai Do. "It's not simple for a cop to be queer; “It is not easy for a cop being queer, it is very tough. It is not a simple journey for him,” he remarked.
Badhaai Do appears to be a mainstream picture with a socially significant theme at its core. As he spoke about the film's writers, makers, and lead performers, Harshvardhan said that the reason for crafting socially relevant cinema is likely because they are "more socially aware human beings." It is not the other way around that it has to be socially relevant and then let’s put a story behind it. That doesn’t come to me or the writers (Suman Adhikary, Akshat Ghildial), none of us.”
Harshvardhan expressed his admiration for Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao's preparation when speaking of his main cast members. Harshvardhan stated that he has always "admired" Bhumi and Rajkummar and that his goal was to "work with passionate performers whose profession reflects that passion." Harshvardhan remarked that he was expecting a fruitful experience before they started working together, but that the uncertainty can make even the most optimistic individuals a little skeptical, but the pessimism vanished as soon as they started working.
Badhaai Do is set to hit theatres on February 11th.
