In a significant breakthrough in the fight against organized crime, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, successfully apprehended two habitual criminals associated with the Sonu Khatri Gang (operating from the USA). This arrest is a major blow to the criminal network, with the authorities recovering sophisticated firearms and preventing potential murders.
Divulging details CP Jalandhar said on March 2, 2025, CIA police team was stationed near Suchi Pind road in Jalandhar as part of their routine patrolling. The team received a tip-off about the two individuals of Sonu Khatri Gang who were reportedly heading to Suchi Pind village on a motorcycle with the intention of committing a crime. The suspects were known for their involvement in robberies, fights, and snatching incidents.
Acting swiftly on the information, the police team reached Suchi Pind Jalandhar and established Nakka bandi during that the police party spotted two individuals riding a motorcycle without numberplate and when the police attempted to stop the suspects, they opened fire on the police team. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, the suspects lost control of their motorcycle and fell. Despite this, they continued to shoot at the police officers, leading again crossfire. In this exchange, both suspects were injured by bullets in their right legs. The police team then managed to apprehend the criminals which were identified as Sukhwinder Kumar alias Sukh s/o Chaman Lal r/o village Garh Padhana PS Mukandpur, S.B.S Nagar and Harpreet Singh alias Mamu alias Preet s/o Jaswinder Singh r/o village Kang Jagir, Jalandhar.
She said that police recovered two sophisticated pistols, seven live rounds, and six used cartridges from their possession. The black motorcycle without registrated number plate used by the criminals was also seized. An FIR No. 45 under sections 221, 132, 109, 111 BNS, and 25, 27-54-59 of the Arms Act. has been registered at the Rama Mandi Police Station.
She further said that Both Sukhwinder Kumar and Harpreet Singh have a notorious criminal history, with several serious criminal cases pending against them. They are involved in multiple violent crimes, including the murder of Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma in Jammu and Kashmir. It is worth mentioning here that accused Sukhwinder Kumar alias Sukh was a wanted criminal in the Balachaur Case registered under Arms Act
CP Jalandhar Dhanpreet Kaur emphasised that the successful operation is a major step in curbing organized crime and ensuring public safety. She assured the public that no criminal activity would be tolerated, and strict legal action would continue to be taken against all those involved in criminal activities.
