In another intelligence-led operation, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by Commissioner of Police Mr Swapan Sharma has busted dreaded gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa’s interstate weapon smuggling network with the arrest of three and recovery of 17 weapons and 33 magazines procured through Hawala money.
Divulging the details, the Commissioner of Police said that this was a seven-day-long operation based on tip-off by highly reliable sources. He said that the Police had laid a trap to bust this racket as a part of which three criminals identified as Kunal, Gurlal, and Parvez have been nabbed. Mr Swapan Sharma said that Kunal is a resident of Ferozepur and seven cases of Arms Act, attempt of murder, and drug smuggling are pending against him adding that Gurlal and Parvez of Patti are cousins and are in their early 20s.
The Commissioner of Police said that during the investigation it has come to light that weapons were supplied by Indore, Madhya Pradesh-based youth identified as Kunal. He further said that Gurlal's brother Sharanjit, who is currently in jail, is closely associated with US-based gangsters Gurdev Gill and Lakhbir Singh Landa, who are involved in Extortion and Terror activities. Mr Swapan Sharma said that Landa and Gill are handlers of this gun-running racket adding that Kunal of Indore was paid by them through Hawala channel to procure country-made small arms.
The Commissioner of Police said that Police have recovered 12 .32 bore pistols, five .34 bore star pistols, 33 magazines and 20 live ammunition. He said that these weapons were seized from different locations in the districts of Tarntaran and Ferozepur adding that these weapons were meant for the associates of Landa spanning in districts of Moga, Ferozepur, and Tarn Taran. Mr Swapan Sharma said that further investigations in the case are going on and details will be shared later.
