New Year’s celebration in the city is set to be marked with full enthusiasm and security arrangements, according to a notification issued by the Police Commissioner’s office. The Commissioner appeals to city residents to extend New Year greetings while maintaining discipline in the administration.

A no-vehicle zone has been established around P.P.R. Mall from December 31, 2023, until the night of January 1, 2024. During this period, no vehicle will be allowed to enter the P.P.R. Mall area.

Additionally, parking areas have been designated on both sides of the road near the P.P.R. Mall, allowing pedestrians to celebrate the New Year with joy. Changes in traffic arrangements have been made in various parts of the city, effective from the night of December 31, 2023, to January 1, 2024.

Notably, the traffic from Geeta Mandir will now pass through Model Town lights instead of Geeta Mandir lights, while traffic from Model Town lights to Guru Nanak Mission Chowk will go through Masand Chowk or Main Bazar Chowk, bypassing Geeta Mandir.

Furthermore, new roundabouts and exits have been created at Van-ve C.P. Chowk, Van Ve No Exit, and Van-ve C.F.S. Chowk.

The Police Commissioner emphasizes that strict vigilance measures have been taken, especially during the New Year festivities, with A.R.P. teams present at every intersection to ensure proper monitoring. He also mentions increased fines for individuals found driving under the influence of alcohol with the help of alco-meters.

If any vehicle owner attempts to evade penalties by changing pressure horns, tuning horns, modifying music systems to high volume, installing silencers, or engaging in any other means of creating noise and disturbance, strict actions will be taken against such offenders to curb such activities that may create a nuisance among the general public.”Commissioner of Police Jalandhar, Sh. Swapan Sharma, has expressed unwavering confidence in the implementation of strict measures to maintain order during the New Year celebrations. He has emphasized that the police force will take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt the festivities.

This proactive approach aims to ensure the safety and security of the public during the New Year's Day celebrations.
