Jalandhar put on 3-day thunderstorm alert by IMD; Monsoon knocks on Punjab's door

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that conditions are now favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon, with Punjab and Haryana expected to receive monsoon showers

After days of intense summers and continuous heatwaves, Punjab is now finally welcoming Monsoon 2025. Punjab Monsoon Update has been confirmed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) as well. Recently, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that conditions are now favourable for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon, with Punjab and Haryana expected to receive monsoon showers between June 17 and 21. Now, IMD Chandigarh has put multiple districts of Punjab on thunderstorm alert for the next 5 days. Furthermore, the weather department has put Jalandhar on thunderstorm alert for at least 3 days. Punjab Weather  Update

IMD Chandigarh on Wednesday afternoon issued a new prediction and put multiple districts of Punjab on thunderstorm alert till June 22. Below is the date and the districts of Punjab when thunderstorms are predicted- 

  • June 18- Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala
  • June 19- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala
  • June 20- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala
  • June 21- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Barnala, Sangrur, and Mansa
  • June 22- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Barnala, Sangrur, and Mansa

Hence, Jalandhar has been put on thunderstorm alert on June 20, 21, and 22. 

Punjab Temperature

As Monsoon is knocking on the doors of Punjab, the state's maximum temperature has decreased sharply. At 34.6°C, Faridkot was the hottest district in Punjab on June 17. Amritsar- 32.7°C, Ludhiana- 31.6°C, Patiala- 30.2°C, Pathankot- 33.3°C, Bathinda- 32.5°C, Hoshiarpur- 31°C, etc.
