In a major operation, the Jalandhar Rural Police apprehended two absconding accused involved in an attempted murder case that had remained unresolved for over two years.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sulaiman, son of Madan, and Sandeep Singh, son of the late Baga, both residents of village Butra in Bhogpur district.
Speaking to the press media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that the arrests are the result of a dedicated operation aimed at apprehending those evading arrest for long times. “These individuals were wanted in a serious crime and had been absconding for an extended period. Jalandhar Rural Police remain committed to bringing such fugitives to justice,” said SSP Khakh.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of . Jasrup Kaur Bath, IPS, SP (Investigation), and Kulwant Singh, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub-Division Adampur. The team was led by Inspector Sikander Singh Virk, Station House Officer, Bhogpur Police Station.
The attempted murder case dates back to August 2022, when Gurnam Singh, son of Kehar Singh, resident of village Ladoi, reported an attack on himself and his nephew Maninder Singh. The incident occurred near their haveli in village Ladoi in evening when four unidentified men, covering their faces and arriving on a black Pulsar motorcycle, assaulted the complainant with the handle of a hand pump, inflicting serious injuries.
After evading arrest for over two years by frequently changing locations, the two suspects were tracked down and apprehended in a planned operation by the Bhogpur Police team on November 8, 2024.
FIR No. 100 was registered on August 20, 2022, at Bhogpur Police Station under sections 307, 326, 342, 201, 148, 149, and 120-B of the IPC.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the arrested individuals have a history of violent behaviour and had been avoiding law enforcement by moving between various hideouts.
The arrested accused will be produced in the court, and their remand will be sought to further investigate the case and verify any additional criminal connections.
