NHS Hospital has once again set a record. Rajendra Nath Puran, a resident of Jalandhar, approximately 90 years old, was experiencing breathing difficulties and low blood pressure in recent days. When he consulted Dr. Sahil Sareen at NHS Hospital, it was discovered that one of his heart valves was damaged. Normally, in case of a faulty valve, surgery is performed by cutting the chest bone and replacing the valve with a bypass operation.
However, Dr. Sahil Sareen, a cardiologist at NHS Hospital, and his team, for the first time in the region, replaced the faulty valve with a new one without surgery using a technique called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVI).
In this technique, a wire is inserted into the blood vessel like a needle, and a catheter lab machine is used to place a new valve in the heart by seeing through it. This innovative technology is known as TAVI. This case in Jalandhar is the first of its kind, indicating that in the future, NHS Hospital might be able to treat heart valve issues in patients without surgery. After a procedure lasting approximately 45 minutes, the patient is completely fine, and he was discharged the next day.
In a press conference, the hospital’s director, Dr. Shubhang Agrawal, Dr. Sandeep Goyal, and Dr. Navin Chitkara, mentioned that the hospital’s cardiology department is capable of handling all kinds of complex treatments with the latest technical machines. Dr. Sahil stated that the patient is stable. With the use of this new and safe technique, now we can improve the condition of heart valves without major surgery, and in the coming days, we can enhance the heart health of more patients using this technology.
