As per the Hindu epics, Lord Krishna was born on the 8th day of Krishna Paksha in a dungeon in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh to Queen Devaki and King Vasudeva. Hindu festival Krishna Janamashtami is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. 

According to the Hindu mythologies, Lord Krishna is the 8th avatar of Lord Vishnu, one of the Trimurti of Hinduism. The day is also known as Gokulashtami, Ashtami Rohini, Sri Krishnashtami and Srikrishna Jayanti in various parts of India. 

Krishna Janamashtami is celebrated in various states of the country in different ways. Surprisingly, the festival is also celebrated in some countries. Five other countries, along with India celebrate the festival with great pomp and worship of Lord Krishna.

Here are those five countries:

1.) New Zealand: 

In New Zealand, people celebrate Janamashtami and decorate the Sri Sri Radha Giridhari Temple in Auckland with flowers, lights and garlands. People offer prayers and enjoy mouth-watering prashad. 


2.) Paris: 

When it comes to the festival, no one can forget the city of lights – Paris. On the occasion of Janamashtami people visit Sri Sri Radha Parisisvara Temple in Paris. People worship Lord Krishna by fasting and singing melodious songs, which adds magic to the festive ambiance. 


3.) Canada:

As more and more Indians are settling in Canada, Janamashtami is celebrated with great pomp. People visit the Richmond Hill Hindu temple, where people enjoy the musical concerts related to this festival. On Janamashtami the temple is decorated with flowers and the fragrance of the flowers would take to another world.

4.) Malaysia:

In Malaysia, devotees of Lord Krishna celebrate grand Janamashtami at temples of Kuala Lumpur. Here, the festival is celebrated with joyousness and Indian communities organize dramas and dances. Further ‘prasad’ is distributed among devotees. 


5.) Singapore:

During the time of Janamashtami, the country looks like “mini-India.” The festival is celebrated with sweets, attractive decorations and loads of energy. To celebrate the festival of love and joy the devotees visit the Shree Lakshminarayan temple.
