A truly well deserved week for LPU Founder and latest elected Rajya Sabha member Ashok Mittal, who was recently elected as the unopposed Rajya Sabha member for AAP Govt in Punjab.

He was elected as the Rajya Sabha with four other candidates of the AAP party, including Harbhajan Singh, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Kumar Pathak and Sanjeev Arora on Thursday.

He was quite keen to diversify their business from making sweets to other fields and so the family set up an automobile dealership, Lovely Autos, in 1991. 

The family, originally from Rajasthan, then diversified further into the field of education and set up the Lovely Institute of Management on the Jalandhar-Phagwara Highway in 2000.

Ashok Mittal, a law graduate, is the Founder of Chancellor Lovely Professional University (LPU). He is recognized today as a celebrated academic reformer, social activist, philanthropist, and humanitarian.

LPU is the first Private University to be Granted ICAR Accreditation by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. Under his able leadership, LPU takes pride by achieving the Third rank in India In The Atal Ranking Of Institutions On Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). 

LPU has pioneered India’s largest private scholarship scheme which has given out annual scholarships of over Rs. 100 crores not only to meritorious students but also to the physically disabled. 

LPU created history when Tokyo Olympics, 14 LPU students participated, out of which 13 students including Neeraj Chopra, won one Gold, one Silver and two Bronze medals.

The ruling Congress won 18 seats, a massive decline from 77 it had won in 2017, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) could manage only three seats. After the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, AAP's strength in the upper house is set to increase from three to eight.
