Kabir Khan on 83: If further restrictions are imposed, we will release the film on OTT

Amid Covid crisis, many films release dates have been postponed for an indefinite period.

Covid cases are increasing in India at a tremendous rate. The government has issued guidelines to control this pandemic. The theatres have been shut at many places. Due to this, the release of various films, have been postponed for an indefinite time period.

Ranveer Singh starrer ‘83’ has been the most awaited film. The film is out in theatres. The film is greatly appreciated by the audiences. Ranveer Singh plays the role of cricket legend Kapil Dev, while Deepika Padukone plays the role of his wife, Romi Bhatia.

Kabir Khan, director of 83 shared, “"The film was ready with us 18 months back. We wanted people to see it on the big screen because that's how it was designed. But, at that time it was It was not possible. We worked hard and waited for a long time to release the film in theatres. But from the day of its release, the Covid cases started increasing in the country. After which the cinema halls in Delhi were also closed.”

"This film is based on Kapil Dev's life. He consoled us and said - When we won the World Cup in 1983, we did not get the money. We got respect. You made this film to get respect, and you are getting that. You focus on that," he added.

On talking about OTT realease of the film, Kabir Khan said, “We do not know whether we will have to close the film from theaters tomorrow, or will be given five to six days' time. If more restrictions are imposed, we will release the film on OTT very soon. But, I am very happy that people are going to watch it in theatres with precautions."


Kabir Khan has focused on every player and made them stand out by giving a power-packed performance. The epic journey of the Indian cricket team from underdogs to true winners will surely give goosebumps to its audiences.
