A tragic road accident occurred in phagwara subdivision of Kapurthala, resulting in the death of two individuals, including a youth who had returned from Australia after 10 years. The youth’s mother has also got seriously injured in the accident. The deceased were identified as Dilpreet Singh, son of Harpreet Singh, a resident of 447-D Model Town Extension, Ludhiana, and the taxi driver from Amritsar. The injured woman was Gurinder Kaur, wife of Harpreet Singh, a resident of the same address in Ludhiana.
According to reports, the incident took place on the phagwara highway while the family was going from Amritsar Airport to Ludhiana. The taxi, traveling at high speed, collided with a tractor-trolley carrying sugarcane while attempting to overtake it. The taxi lost balance and crashed with a truck. Dilpreet Singh, who had just returned from Australia, died on the spot, while the taxi driver succumbed to injuries during treatment at the Civil Hospital. Gurinder Kaur, who was severely injured, was initially treated at the Phagwara Civil Hospital and later referred to DMC Ludhiana due to her critical condition.
The Phagwara City Police arrived at the spot and started the investigation. A FIR was also filed based on the statement of the deceased’s father, Harpreet Singh.
Harpreet Singh, a resident of 447-D Model Town Extension, Ludhiana, shared that his son Dilpreet Singh had been living in Melbourne, Australia, for the past 10 years. After settling permanently in Australia, Dilpreet’s mother, Gurinder Kaur, had traveled to Australia a month ago, on November 13, to bring him back.
On Wednesday night, Dilpreet and his mother arrived at Amritsar Airport and boarded a taxi with registration number PB-01B-7185 to head towards Ludhiana. When they reached the flyover near the Civil Hospital on the Phagwara GT Road, the taxi collided violently with a sugarcane-laden tractor-trolley ahead. This collision led to the tragic deaths of Dilpreet Singh and the taxi driver. The police have seized the tractor-trolley and registered a case against the unknown tractor driver.
