Akshay Kumar has confirmed a third movie in the Kesari series, sharing details about its main character. While talking to reporters at the Kesari Chapter 2 trailer release in Delhi on Thursday, the actor mentioned that the next film will focus on Hari Singh Nalwa, the first leader of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj, the Sikh Empire's military force.
At the event, Akshay said, "We have to prepare for Kesari 3 now. This morning we were discussing, We are thinking of making it on Hari Singh Nalwa. What do you guys say? Shall we show the real side of Punjab?"
Hari Singh Nalwa (1791-1837) held the position of Sikh commander-in-chief of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj under the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He governed Kashmir, Hazara, and Peshawar, earning recognition for his victories against Afghan forces. Nalwa had a crucial impact on stopping Afghan invasions into Punjab via the Khyber Pass. His contributions proved essential in the battles at Kasur, Sialkot, Attock, Multan, Kashmir, Peshawar, and Jamrud.
Historically, the Battle of Jamrud, which was a significant battle in the Afghan-Sikh Wars, was the last battle fought by Hari Singh Nalwa. He had led the advance against the Afghan army, resulting in a tragic loss of his life. But the Sikh Empire won the battle against the Afghans.
The original 2019 film Kesari was based on the true story of the Battle of Saragarhi in 1897, where 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army fought against 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.
Meanwhile, besides Akshay Kumar, Kesari 2 also features R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles. The film is based on the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the courtroom battle led by lawyer C. Sankaran Nair. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, it is set to hit the big screen on April 18.
