Who was 'real-life' Lady Jane Grey?
Going by the archives and historical information available on the British monarchy, Lady Jane Grey was a studious teen. She succeeded her cousin King Edward VI to the crown in 1553 but was dethroned by his half-sister Mary just nine days later and beheaded the following year, aged 16 or 17.
Lady Jane Grey was the eldest daughter of Henry Grey, 2nd Duke of Suffolk, and his wife, Frances Brandon. As per reports, Jane was born at Bradgate Park in Leicestershire in October 1537. Another study says that Jane Grey was born somewhat earlier, possibly in London, sometime before May 1537 or between May 1536 and February 1537.
Why was Jane Grey executed at the age of 17?
As per reports, after King Edward's death she was proclaimed queen. She was given precedence over Henry VIII's daughters, Mary Tudor and Elizabeth. Two weeks after the death of her brother, Mary, who had the support of the English people, claimed the throne, which Jane relinquished, having reigned for only nine days. Jane, her husband Lord Guilford Dudley, and her father were imprisoned in the Tower of London on charges of high treason. Jane and her husband were later beheaded over high treason.
