The Maharashtra government on Thursday has decided to keep the lockdown
restrictions enforced till May 15 after the state recorded 66,519 new Covid-19
cases in a single day. Also, 771 people succumbed to the infection in the last 24
hours.
The State Executive Committee in the latest order reiterated that it is significant to continue emergency orders to prevent and curb the spread of the coronavirus.
“The govt in the exercise of the powers conferred under Section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, read with all other enabling provisions of The Disaster Management Act, 2005, finds it is necessary to continue the enforcement of the current restrictions throughout the State beyond 7 am on May 1, 2021 till 7 am on May 15, 2021, to break the chain of transmission effectively,” the order said.

Notably, CM Uddhav Thackeray decided to impose Covid restrictions on April 14 for a week after the state witnessed an unprecedented surge in the infection cases. However, these restrictions were later extended for some more time barring more activities under section 144 of the CrPC.
Notably, the local train services and public transport in Maharashtra are on ply for only essential services staff of the government. The essential services in the state are also allowed amid the restrictions.
The grocery stores, vegetable shops and milk outlets are only allowed to function between 7 am and 11 am.
