On 1st February, Saturday, police raided Bagga Kalan in Ludhiana. The farmers' protest outside the Reliance Gas Plant was ended. Police took action on the protest at around 5 am. Police detained some people present in the protest.
The farmers had locked the gate of the biogas plant under construction. The villagers have been protesting against this factory for several weeks as it is likely to cause harm to health and the environment.
Talking to media, Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union chief Dilbagh Singh Gill said that when the police raided this morning, he and farmer leader Harnek Singh Ladia managed to escape.
But the police arrested Inderbir Singh Kadian, head of Bharatiya Kisan Union Doaba. He has been put under house arrest. Police officers are not saying anything about on whose orders this action was taken.
Police teams are also deployed at the houses of many farmer leaders. Regarding this matter, the farmers will gather today and formulate the strategy for the next protest. The farmers strongly condemn this action of the police.
