CM Bhagwant Mann's government has begun taking action on Panchayati lands in Punjab. In order to remove the illegal encroachments from panchayat lands across the state, the Department of Rural development and Panchayats has launched a special drive. On Thursday, the state's Rural Development and Panchayat Minister conducted raids in Mohali. He reclaimed 29 acres of land that had been occupied illegally by a retired Captain. Since 2007, it has been occupied. The illegal occupants have been panicked as a result of the minister's action.

Kuldeep Dhaliwal, the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayats, had arrived with officers and police. He had a court order and a possession warrant with him. Officers of the Revenue Department had also reached out with records in order to resolve any kind of dispute.

The panchayat minister informed that following directions of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann, he had set a target for the officials to vacate illegal encroachments from 5,000 acres of panchayat land by 31st May, 2022 under a special drive across the state in the first phase.
Commencing this special drive today, officials removed illegal encroachment from Mohali, he added.

The cost of this land, according to Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal, is in crores. Water will now be provided on a contract basis for agriculture by arranging it here. The Panchayat's income will rise as a result of this. This land is close to former CM Captain Amarinder Singh's Siswan farm house and Akali chief Sukhbir Badal's Hotel Sukh Vilas.

Apart from Mohali, the government is targeting Bathinda, Amritsar, and Patiala.

The Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats also said that the Punjab government is committed to remove encroachments from all panchayat lands in the state and these encroachments will be removed without any discrimination and the lands of the panchayats will be handed over to the panchayats.
