PM J&K visit: Mobile internet service suspended in Kashmir

As a precautionary measure, mobile internet services of all companies, including BSNL, were suspended from mid-night to prevent any spread of rumours

Srinagar: On Sunday,the mobile internet services of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) were suspended in the Kashmir valley for security reasons ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival. PM Modi is on a day long visit to Jammu and Kashmir to inaugurate and lay foundation stone of various developmental projects. Mr Modi arrived at Leh this morning.

"We have received instructions from the authorities to suspend mobile internet service in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar", service providers said this morning. They also added that services will be restored only after receiving fresh advisory from the authorities.

Snapping mobile service in Republic Day and Independence Day besides visit of VVIPs is a precautionary measure to prevent rumours. However, the Broadband and point-to-point internet service was normal.

The suspension of mobile internet affected students, doctors and other professionals. Media persons working in the field were also affected by the absence of mobile internet.
