The controversy & risks revolving around deepfake video have emerged yet again and this time Mukesh Ambani's voice was morphed. A doctor hailing from Mumbai fell victim to a share market scam and ended up losing Rs 7 lakhs. The Mumbai doctor became a victim of a share market scam after watching Mukesh Ambani's deepfake video. A case has been registered under sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66(D) of the IT Act, following a complaint filed with Mumbai Police. The Mumbai doctor in her statement further stated that she was added to a WhatsApp group through a link, assured of profits, directed to download an app, and instructed to deposit money into various accounts.
In the meantime, Mukesh Ambani's deepfake video is also going viral on social media. In the viral Mukesh Ambani deep fake video, the Reliance boss can be seen addressing a gathering. However, his voice is clearly morphed. The morphed voice asks people to be involved in trading and investing in the stock market. The morphed Mukesh Ambani's video was shared by multiple dubious traders.
The Mumbai doctor has been identified as Dr KH Patil. Dr. Patil initially came across the deepfake video on April 15 while scrolling through her Instagram feed. The video depicted Ambani promoting the success of a trading academy named Rajiv Sharma Trade Group and urging people to join BCF Academy for high returns on investments, the woman mentioned in her complaint to the police.
Believing the endorsement to be genuine, Dr Patil searched for the group online and found that they purportedly had offices in London and at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, which further convinced her of their legitimacy. As per the FIR, Dr. Patil reached out to the academy online and proceeded to invest a total of Rs 7.1 lakh between May and June. She was provided with an account where she could monitor her investments, which quickly showed a profit of over Rs 30 lakh.
