The festival of harvesting - Baisakhi, also called Vaisakhi- is around the corner and is expected to be celebrated with pomp and fervor in Punjab. Notably, this festival marks the beginning of the New Year for the people who believe in the Sikh Calendar. The day is celebrated as the founding day of the Khalsa by the tenth and last human Sikh guru Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in the year 1699.
The day is celebrated traditionally, and the streets of the state are filled with people dressed in ethnic Punjabi attires, who dance to the dhol beats, creating a Punjabi Vibe.
According to Drik Panchang, Biasakhi is celebrated on April 14, and on this day, this festival will be celebrated on Sunday. However, on April 13, the people of Punjab marked a mourning day as on that day, hundreds of people were killed at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, who were gathered to protest against the Rowlatt Act. History states that General Dyer and his troops opened fire and killed those people while thousands were severely injured.
Cinema has always offered an insight into this painful and most disheartening event in Punjab’s history, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and, of course, the culture of Punjab. So, here is a list of some fun, intense, and interesting films about Punjab and its history. These movies will surely add an element to your Baisakhi 2025 celebrations.
