In recent news, Netflix's new erotic thriller, Obsession, has managed to rise to the top of the worldwide episodic most-watched list, despite receiving a critical pounding. The movie, which is an adaptation of Josephine Hart's novel Damage, stars Richard Armitage as a surgeon who indulges in a passionate and risky affair with his son's fiancée, leading to an almost obsessive relationship.

Although the movie currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 43%, it has managed to secure the second spot on the worldwide most-watched list, with FlixPatrol reporting its success in 84 countries across the globe. Interestingly, the movie has managed to reach the summit in over 20 of those countries, highlighting its global appeal.

While Obsession may not have received widespread acclaim, its promise of sex and skin has made it an instant sensation. In fact, its success is a testament to the fact that viewers often watch erotic thrillers for the titillation factor rather than the plot and characters.

Obsession's story isn't entirely new, as it was previously adapted into a movie in 1992, which saw Miranda Richardson nominated for an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. However, it seems that Netflix's adaptation has managed to capture the attention of audiences worldwide, despite not holding a candle to its predecessor.
