New Delhi: Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place ahead of the Independence Day celebrations in the National Capital.

The Delhi police have roped in specialized units of the National Security Guard, Special Protection Group, Indo Tibetan Border Police commandos and others who will work in close co-ordination to secure the Red Fort and surrounding areas and also vital installations.

Facial Recognition System has also been set up at vantage points for suspect identification, while all the buildings that fall opposite to the Red Fort will be secured by the security agencies, the sources said here.

Besides the Red Fort, the core VVIP zone of the National Capital will also be under security agencies hawk eyes, while security personnel will stand guard and high rise buildings.

Airspace restrictions will also be effective while the celebrations are on.

Around 20,000 personnel alone from the Delhi Police have been deployed for the Independence day arrangements with additional force from the other agencies.

The specialized units of Delhi police like the SWAT teams and Parakram vans will also be stationed at and around Red Fort and other important locations in the city that witness large footfall such as the railway stations and bus terminus, including the busy markets.

The security personnel will also be deployed in plain clothes who will keep a sharp eye on any suspicious movement or such activity.

The police have made elaborate traffic arrangements with the optimal deployment of staff, and signages for public convenience on Independence Day.

Apart from securing the main venue at Red Fort, adequate security arrangements have been made across the city along with a city-wide alert being exercised by all the District Deputy Commissioners of Police.

Security and checking at the borders of the National Capital has also been stepped up in view of the I -Day.

A couple of days ago, the forces were on alert in view of the upcoming event and the security at the Delhi Metro has also been increased.
