Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his first US visit after Donald Trump came back to power broke his silence on the illegal Indian immigrants that America deported. During a media interaction in the US, the Indian Prime Minister said that New Delhi will take back verified Indian illegal migrants in the US. PM Modi also outlined that the people who are being sent back by the US are ordinary people and they have been lured to America by human traffickers. Hence, India will take strict action against human traffickers and ultimately break their ecosystem. Below is what PM Modi said-
..Those who stay in other countries illegally do not have any legal right to be there. As far as India and the US are concerned, we have always said that those who are verified and are truly the citizens of India - if they live in the US illegally, India is ready to take them back. But it doesn't stop just there for us. These are people from ordinary families," said PM Modi.
"They are shown big dreams and most of them are such who are misled and brought here. So, we should attack this entire system of human trafficking. Together, it should be the effort of the US and India to destroy such an ecosystem from its roots so that human trafficking ends...Our bigger fight is against that entire ecosystem and we are confident that President Trump will fully cooperate with India in finishing this ecosystem," added PM Modi on Thursday at a news conference after bilateral talks with President Donald Trump.
The US sent back about 1040 illegal migrants from India on a military plane to Amritsar a few months back. India reportedly has agreed to take back 18,000 illegal migrants.
The second batch of Indians likely to arrive on Saturday from the US
As per reports, the US is likely to send another batch of approximately 119 illegal immigrants to India. This will be the second batch of immigrants to be deported by the US government. According to reports, these are the people who entered the US by spending lakhs of rupees through the 'donkey route' or other illegal means and have been living there for the last one to three years. The report said that although official confirmation is awaited from the Indian authorities, reports quoted sources in the US administration who stated that deportation may take place this week.
