Singer Diljit Dosanjh starrer Panjab 95 is all set to get released in international cinemas without any cuts. On 18th January, Diljit shared a post on his Instagram, announcing the release date of the movie.
The post reads, “Panjab (written in Punjabi language) 95 releases in Cinemas Internationally only on 7th February. P.S. Full Movie, No Cuts.”
Panjab 95 is a biographical movie based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. This movie is directed by Honey Trehan. It is produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s banner RSVP Movies. It stars Diljit Dosanjh, Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky.
Jaswant Singh Khalra was the director of a bank in the city of Amritsar in Punjab during the militancy period in Punjab. He was investigating four major cases and collecting evidences.
In September 1995, he was last seen in front of his house washing his car in Amritsar. As per official reports, he was tortured and shot dead at Jhabal police station. Following this, four policemen were given life imprisonment in the Jaswant Singh Khalra’s murder case.
Why is Panjab 95 not releasing in India?
As per Economic Times, Panjab 95 had faced delays due to issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Previously, it was reported that India's Censor Board CBFC allegedly asked the makers to make at least 120 cuts in the movie. Apart from this, the movie was also set to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) but then it was removed from the line-up without any official statement from the organisers.
Notably, the decision to release the uncut version of the movie comes amid reports that India's Censor Board CBFC proposed 120 cuts in the movie. As per now, Panjab 95 release date in India has not been announced.
Additionally, Punjab 95 teaser has been withheld on YouTube in India by the makers of the movie. YouTube page of White Hill House displays a black screen that reads, “Video Unavailable…The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”
