PGIMER marks 7th COVID recovery, another patient wins the corona-war

In a huge relief to UT and giving hope to others who are battling against coronavirus, PGIMER hails recovery of another 49-year-old patient here.

The medical institution lined up outside the Nehru Hospital Extension (NHE) Block, designated as Covid Hospital, to cheer the warrior on when he was about to leave for his home after succcessfully winning the tough battle against deadly coronavirus.

The recovered patient was accompanied by PGIMER team towards the exit, reunited with his family after being isolated for around 21 days there.

On his discharge from hospital, local resident/recovered patients expressed his emotions with folded hands and said “I don’t have words to express how grateful I am. I want to express my extreme gratitude for the care I received at PGIMER. From the moment I came to know I was tested Covid-19 positive at and then through my whole stay in PGIMER till this moment of discharge, I was quite apprehensive."

"But facilities, and especially PGIMER amazing and proactive team, gave me an excellent care, eased my pain and anxiety and made me as comfortable as I could be. I can’t thank them enough. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate the courtesy and professionalism of all the PGIMER team involved in my care. They have actually given me a second lease of life,” said the Covid cured person.

Prof. Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER while lauding the incessant efforts of PGIMER covid team said that, "This local resident has made an incredible recovery and the joyful moment of his discharge marks a positive milestone for PGIMER, which has been caring for all the positive Covid-19 patients in addition to SARI, ILI and non-covid patients not only from the tricity but also from the adjoining neighbouring states. This is hugely motivating for our front line warriors." 

Director PGIMER further elaborated that "with todays discharge we mark the successful recovery of 7th COVID-19 positive patient from Nehru Hospital Extension. And we hope to continue to send off other patients as well to their homes soon.”

Today discharged patient was admitted in GMSH, Sector 16 on 30th March where he was tested Covid-19 positive. Later, he was shifted to PGIMER on 3rd April, 2020.  
 
Prof. Pankaj Malhotra, Deptt. of Internal Medicine, PGIMER, while explaining the recovery process, stated, “The decision to discharge the patient from the hospital was taken by the treating team, which met and examined the results of his samples that had tested negative for 2 successive tests, a necessary pre-condition for a patient to be declared cured.”

Urging for community support to contain the disease, Prof. Malhotra further said,” We at PGIMER will put in our best of the efforts to get every patient recovered and get them home. But we would request everyone to maintain the social distance , wear masks, wash hands thoroughly and frequently so that the spread is contained and the numbers don’t surge. This would help us, the health care workers, to save ourselves as well save our patients’ precious lives.”
