According to a communique from the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Piyush Goyal has been temporarily given the charge of Finance ministry in view of Arun Jaitley's indisposition. The statement said that the President who is acting the on advice of the PM had directed that during the period of indisposition of Arun Jaitley, "the portfolios of Ministersof Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs held by him, be temporarily assigned to Srhri Piyush Goyal" in addition to the Railways Ministry.
The temporary allocation of the Finance Ministry comes just a week before the presentation of the Interim Budget. However there is no clarity regarding which minister will present the Union Budget scheduled for 1st February.
This is the second time that Piyush Goyal will be the Interim Finance Minister. It was in May last year when he was made the incharge of the Finance Ministry when Arun Jaitley underwent a kidney transplant. Jaitley resumed charge as the Finance Minister several months later in August.
He left for the US for medical checkups, earlier this month.
