Post cash seizure from DMK’s office, EC to cancel polls at Tamil Nadu’s Vellore

New Delhi: Post the cash seizure from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate office a few days ago by the income tax department, the Election Commission on Tuesday decided to cancel the lok sabha election in Tamil Nadu Vellore.

A complaint has been filed by the Police on the accused, Kathir Anand, as well as two party functionaries on the basis of a report from the Income Tax department on April 10.

Kathir Anand, who is also the son of senior DMK leader Durai Murugan, has been charged  under the Representation of People Act for giving "wrong information" in his election affidavit filed along with his nomination papers. The other two, identified as Srinivasan and Damodaran, were booked under bribery charges.

In a raid conducted by the IT department at Durai Murugan house, a total amount of Rs 10.50 lakh in cash was seized. The cash was alleged to be used of electioneering purpose.

However, Murgan, accused the central political leaders for the untimely raid and said he has nothing conceal.
