Another Indian actor has fallen prey to the growing menace of deepfake videos, and this is none other than the global star Priyanka Chopra. The Indian government took measures to combat the sudden rise of deepfake videos, but such cases have been on the rise lately. Priyanka Chopra has become the victim of a deepfake video after Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Alia Bhatt. These deepfake cases have sparked new concerns over the use of artificial intelligence.

In the video, Priyanka Chopra promotes a brand and divulges her yearly income.

Priyanka Chopra's deepfake video is slowly making rounds on the web. Unlike other actresses whose videos are related to adult content, Priyanka's face wasn't edited over controversial videos. However, her voice and lines from the original video were morphed into a deepfake with a fake brand promotion.

This comes days after a deepfake video of Alia Bhatt became viral in which Alia Bhatt’s face is edited over a different lady, and the latter can be seen sitting on the bed.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar met with social media platforms on Tuesday to assess their efforts in combating misinformation and deepfakes. He emphasized that advisories will be issued within two days to ensure full platform compliance.

Chandrasekhar stated that new, amended IT Rules are being considered to enforce platform compliance further and safeguard online users' trust and safety. During the meeting, platforms were warned about the criminal consequences of causing harm to users, even under existing laws. The government reiterated its "zero tolerance approach" towards user harm resulting from misinformation and deepfakes.

According to report, it was mentioned that the Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) allows for the prosecution of deep fakes under "forgery," and similar provisions exist under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for other forms of harm.

Deepfakes involve the use of synthetic or doctored media, digitally manipulated to misrepresent or impersonate someone using artificial intelligence convincingly. The recent circulation of 'deepfake' videos targeting prominent actors has sparked public outrage and raised concerns about the misuse of technology for creating manipulated content and false narratives.
