On the occasion of Human Rights Day, a march was planned by the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) under the leadership of Dal Khalsa wherein all Sikh organizations gathered at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Bathinda to carry out this protest march. As Sikh organizations started to march outside the Gurdwara, the police blocked all routes leading to the Gurdwara Sahib. Subsequently, there were confrontations between Sikh organizations and the police, resulting in increased surveillance and the detention of several Sikh leaders.
Following this, slogans in support of Khalistan were raised in the markets of Bathinda. Supporters coming in from other districts with the intention to participate in the march were stopped by the police at Kanhaiya Chowk in Bathinda. This led to a roads around the area to being jammed, causing inconvenience for the citizens for nearly half an hour.
After jamming the national highway from Bathinda to Amritsar, the demonstrators stated that they were conducting their march peacefully. The protesters claim that Bathinda police intentionally hindered them. So far, there has been no official statement from Dal Khalsa regarding any specific plan. While the police maintain that they believe the march might disrupt law and order, they have not granted permission for the march within the city.
At around 2:00 PM, Sikh organizations were granted permission to carry out their daily march in the city. During this march, slogans in support of Khalistan were chanted. A substantial amount of police force was deployed to prevent any unprecedented incidents. Police Officers, including SP Ajay Gandhi, SP Narendra Singh, DSP Kuldeep Singh, and Gurpreet Singh, were present during the march.
