The Punjab Government has doubled the fine for violating the traffic rules by releasing a notification. The new rule even includes the suspension of the Driving License. However, one of the government’s ministers has issued a statement against the traffic rules. Brahm Shankar Jimpa, Minister of Revenue and Water Resources in the Mann ministry said I am totally against the new traffic norms and the imposition of a hefty sum over the public.

Rather, he said those breaking the traffic norms must be taught the guidelines and essential principles. The government must take back this notification. No statements from the government have been released as of now.

“The defaulters must be given a chance”: Minister Jimpa

The Minister said people can buy a second-hand vehicle from the fine amount imposed on them. I am of the view that the defaulters must get a chance to rectify their mistakes. They must be told that their license will be seized. The government must change these rules. If someone will be imposed with Rs 10,000 fine, where will they go? He will borrow from someone and that will increase his problems. The Government must not impose its own decisions.
