Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann have emphasised on enhancing the lives and incomes of farmers all across the state. In order to achieve this, the government has launched several initiatives aimed at benefiting all farmers.

In addition to these schemes, the Mann government, through the Horticulture Department, is actively promoting supplementary farming businesses such as vegetable cultivation and gardening. One of the major highlight of this effort is the establishment of advanced vegetable centres in Moga and Kartarpur (Jalgarh), which are transforming agriculture in the state.

The vegetable centre in Kartarpur spans 15 acres and is the first of its kind in Punjab. Utilizing advanced Israeli agricultural technology, it focuses on seasonal vegetable crop preparation while enhancing both productivity and quality.

This Centre of Excellence features innovative facilities like a multi-grading and sorting line, a Hydrogen Unit, and a Plant Health Clinic. The centre emphasizes modern farming methods, including the production of vegetables in soilless mediums. With this technology, farmers are growing nutritious green vegetables, making agriculture more sustainable and profitable.

In Moga, the Horticulture Department has set up a high-tech nursery centre on six acres of land to facilitate safe and efficient vegetable cultivation. This centre includes specialized units to prepare and supply vegetable seedlings to farmers during both summer and winter seasons.

The nursery features a one-acre high-tech unit for cultivating seedless vegetable plants like cucumber, tomato, capsicum, brinjal, and pumpkin in pots. Additionally, the facility is equipped with one high-tech polyhouse and two natural polyhouses, ensuring a controlled environment for robust plant growth.

These centres are part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to promote modern agricultural techniques and improve the financial well-being of farmers. By adopting advanced technologies and focusing on high-value crops, these initiatives are paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future for Punjab’s farming community.
