In Punjab, individuals who assist injured people in road accidents and transport them to the hospital will no longer be stopped or questioned by police personnel. This directive has been issued by the Punjab Police to the SP and Commissioner in all districts. These helpful individuals will be honored with ₹1000 and a letter of appreciation under the Farishte Scheme.
The government is strongly committed to providing immediate assistance to those injured in road accidents in the state. A road safety force has been established, and initial treatment for the injured in hospitals has been made free. However, it was observed that individuals were hesitant to help the injured due to police action and questioning. Therefore, this measure has been implemented.
Previously, in Punjab, many lives were lost in road accidents every day. However, after the Punjab government began working to address this issue, a survey of all roads in Punjab was conducted, accident-prone areas were identified and improved, a road safety force was established, and hospital facilities were enhanced. As a result, the situation has started to improve.
What is Frishta Scheme?
Improving the handling of highway accidents is the aim of the FARSHTA (First Accident Response Service by Highway Traffic Authorities) initiative. The program, which was initiated by highway authorities, involves sending trained first responders to accident scenes quickly, equipped with medical supplies and necessary equipment. In addition to managing traffic to stop more accidents, these responders offer emergency medical care and work with emergency services to ensure that victims are evacuated quickly and safely. The plan also makes use of technology to efficiently track and manage response times, including GPS and communication devices. Ensuring that accident victims receive timely and necessary medical care is the primary goal of FARSHTA, which aims to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries. By increasing the efficiency of emergency responses, the FARSHTA program seeks to improve road safety standards and save lives.
