In a significant step towards infrastructure development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has issued the first tender for the construction of 1,000 kilometers of rural link roads—just a week after announcing the project in the state budget.

For the first time in Punjab’s history, the government has made a five-year maintenance contract mandatory for these roads. In contrast, previous governments typically limited maintenance agreements to just one year, often leading to poor road conditions and recurring repair costs.

“This is the beginning of the change we promised. The foundation for a ‘Badlade Punjab’ was laid in this year’s budget, and we are now turning that vision into action,” said the Aam Aadmi Party in a statement.

The government aims to complete the construction of all the proposed rural link roads by the end of this year, significantly improving connectivity in villages and remote areas.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema will address a press conference today at 2 PM to provide more details on the rural roads initiative and outline the government’s roadmap for infrastructure enhancement in Punjab.
