Seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 are underway. Polling in all 13 constituencies of Punjab is going on. Punjab recorded a voter turnout of 37.80% by 1 PM. Highest polling in Punjab was seen in the three high profile seats in the Malwa region, Bathinda, Sangrur and Patiala. The reason for this is being considered that the leaders in theses constitiuencies have their image at stake. Bathinda recorded a turnout of 41.17 % as Harsimrat Badal is contesting for a fourth consecutive win. Sangrur, at second is, which is important for Punjab CM. Patiala is at third because Ex-CM of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh’s wife, Preneet Kaur, is contesting.
These constituencies are also reportedly have using the most money, manpower and muscle power. There are also allegations surfacing that votes are being bought in Bathinda.

Punjab set the record for highest voter turnout in 1967 elections with 71.13%. Not only this, that year saw Punjab churning out the highest voter turnout of the whole country. In 1967, India recorded a voter turnout of 61.04%. Lowest voter turnout ever recorded in 1992 when a voter turnout of just 23.96 % was recorded.
