Punjab Police arrest 2 accused in Gunhouse theft case; 12 stolen weapons recovered

The ongoing drive against anti-social elements launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann got a major breakthrough after Amritsar Commissionerate Police proactively cracked the Gunhouse theft case with the arrest of two accused persons after recovering 12 weapons along with 21 cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.

 

Those arrested have been identified as Ajit Singh alias Golu (19) a native of District Unnau in Uttar Pradesh, currently Residing at Kot Harnam Das in Amritsar and Mandeep Kumar alias Vada (20) of village Khaparkheri in Amritsar Rural. The recovered weapons include nine Double Barrel Guns, three Pump Action (SBBL) Guns and a kirch (Sharp weapon).

 

As per the information, some unidentified persons decamped with weapons along with ammunition and some cash from the Amritsar-based Royal Gun House on the intervening night of February 21 and 22.

 

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that at least 10 teams from CIA staff - 1 and 2 of Amritsar Commissionerate were formed, who meticulously carried out technical and scientific investigations, managed to arrest the accused persons after a hot chase of 1000+ kilometres across five states/UTs.

 

Sharing more details, CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that Police teams under the supervision of DCP City Dr Pragya Jain and DCP Detective Harpreet Singh Mander led by ADCP City-2 Prabhjot Singh Virk and ADCP Detective Navjot Singh thoroughly investigated this blind case and followed the trail of accused persons, who flee from Punjab same day fearing arrest and went to Chandigarh, Panipat, Delhi, Agra, Ayodhya and Haryana/U.P, before retiring back to Amritsar.

 

He said that preliminary investigations have revealed that after committing the incident, accused persons had safely concealed the weapons and ammunition by digging a pit adjoining railway tracks near Sabji Mandi, Valla.

 

The CP said that the arrested accused Ajit Kumar alias Golu had also stolen 4.2 kg gold from the area of Police Station B Division Amritsar along with his accomplices in October 2023. Further investigations are on, he added.

 

A case FIR No 25 dated 22-2-2024 had already been registered under sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Civil Line, Amritsar.
