The Punjab government has introduced a Land Record Alert System aimed at notifying landowners about any unauthorized changes to their property documents. The new service, available through a subscription model, will send instant alerts via SMS and email to property owners in case of any attempted tampering or registration activity.
Reacting to the Land Record Alert System, Nitin Kohli, Jalandhar Central Halka Incharge, welcomed the move and said,"This is a very good step by the government. It will bring much-needed transparency in the system and protect landowners, especially those living outside Punjab, from being cheated."
The new system is particularly beneficial for NRIs and out-of-state workers, who often fall victim to fraudulent land transactions in their absence. Once subscribed for an annual fee of Rs 500 via the official Jamabandi portal (jamabandi.punjab.gov.in), users will receive alerts about any changes to their land records—enabling them to take legal action in time.
How to apply for the service?
Residents can activate this alert system by paying Rs 500 annually through the official portal- jamabandi.punjab.gov.in.
The new system ensures landowners can file objections before property registration is finalized. Once an objection is filed, the sub-registrar will be barred from processing the registration unless the matter is resolved.
Jamabandi QR Code and Online Mutation in 15 Days
To streamline property mutation (intakaal) processes, QR codes will now be included on Jamabandi (land ownership documents), helping ensure digital tracking and faster processing. Mutation of land titles will now be completed within 15 days instead of weeks or months.
As per reports, nearly 40 lakh people annually visit and record centers to obtain copies of the Jamabandi in Punjab. More than 2 lakh applications are submitted each month. Under the new system, online applications for Jamabandi copies, khasra numbers, and other records will also carry QR codes for verification. Copies will be issued within 7 days of application.
Nitin Kohli stated that this digital initiative will bring major relief to the public by ending the need to visit government offices for tasks like land registration, property transfers (mutations), and obtaining land records (fard). “Now, citizens can access these services with a single click from their mobile phones. All services are available through the EZ Jamabandi website or by calling the helpline number 1076,” he said.
He explained that the digital land records will carry verified digital signatures and QR codes, enabling instant authentication of land records by scanning the code.
“Until now, people had to wait for months to get their land mutations processed. But now, neither patwaris will be able to delay the process nor will there be any need for bribes. The entire system has been made transparent, and all mutations will be completed within 30 days,” Kohli added.
