Punjabi gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria tests COVID positive among 42 others in Gurdaspur

Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, famous Punjabi gangster known for money heists, drug smuggling and murders, tested COVID positive on Tuesday.

Batala Police recently brought gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria to Batala jail on police remand where he was found COVID positive. His sample was sent along-with 42 other samples on May 2 and today it reported corona positive. 

As per the details acquired from sources, Batala Police brought Jaggu from Patiala jail in the case of murder. Jaggu appeared at Batala Courts' and police attained 3 days remand on its stay here.  SSP Batala Opinderjit Singh informed that in the murder case of former Akali Dal Sarpanch Dalbir Singh, Jaggu will be interrogated by the Batala police who has been brought here on a production warrant. 

It is to be noted here that eminent Akali Dal leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia along-with family members of deceased Sarpanch had been alleging that Dalbir's murder was a conspiracy.  

Gangster Jaggu is accused of murdering a Sarpanch of Dhillwan. He was locked up in Patiala Central Jail for quite a long time and brought to Batala on April 30. He is further accused of plotting murder scene inside the jail with the help of a mobile phone amid lockdown.


On April 25, he was shifted to a dark lone cell of the jail due to which the threat of corona spared other inmates. 

On asking about the health of Police officials who were in contact with Jaggu, SSP Batala said nearly 45 officials made contact with him during jail shifting, taking to courts, etc, and now all of them are under home quarantine for 14 days, their tests will also be conducted by the health authorities. 

Another such case had already happened at Ludhiana when the Police officials detained a robber who was COVID positive. Considering the sensitivity of the disease, Ludhiana police officials who came in contact with robber were directed to follow the norm of home quarantine for 14 days.
