Ontario's Peel Police have arrested seven Punjabi youths in connection with two shootings at a Brampton house for ransom. Among them, Manpreet Singh (27), Dilpreet Singh (23) and Harshdeep Singh (23) are accused of fleeing after shooting at the residence of a businessman near Mountainberry Road on 30th November at 2 AM in the night.
Shots were fired twice at the house of an Indian-origin businessman to intimidate him and in order to demand ransom. The same house was fired again on the night of 2nd January. All the family members were safe.
After identifying them with the help of CCTV cameras, during the search of their residence, a gun, bullet and coin were found there.
After getting the evidence from the cameras that the first attack was done by the acquaintances, it became clear that they are the members of the same gang. The police have also arrested the conspirators Dharampreet Singh (25), Manpratap Singh (27), Atmjit Singh (30) and Arvinderpal Singh (21).
Meanwhile Canada's Department of Housing has also stopped issuing work permits for spouses and children under the family quota from January 21. Housing Minister Mike Miller said that now only certain occupations and master's degree work permit holders will be able to get their spouse's work permit. He said that temporary work permit holders will also not be able to apply for work permits for their spouses or children.
However, the new order will not apply to students enrolled in undergraduate programs in elective professions such as medicine, law and nursing, including master's programs and doctoral programs of more than 16 months duration.
