After a brief respite from scorching summer due to rainfall, Punjab's weather is all set to flip again. After torrential rainfall in multiple districts of Punjab, the temperature has yet again started to soar. Before the start of April, India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that Punjab will witness 'above normal heatwave days' from April to June. Although summer is still peaking in the state, Punjab is yet to witness a heatwave day in the state. However, IMD has now predicted the date when Punjab will witness a heatwave.
Punjab Heatwave in April 2025
As per IMD, Punjab will witness a heatwave from April 16 to April 18. For this, Punjab has been put on yellow alert. IMD issues yellow alert for moderate temperature i.e. heat is tolerable for general public but moderate health concern for vulnerable people e.g. infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases. To be precise, IMD has predicted that heatwaves will be witnessed in isolated areas of Punjab from April 16 to April 18. Hence, the weather department has advised children, the elderly, and those with health conditions to avoid venturing out during peak afternoon hours. In India, peak afternoon hours are said to be 3 pm.
Punjab to witness another spell of rainfall?
The answer is most likely. At a time when IMD has predicted a heatwave in Punjab in the coming days, a new western disturbance is also becoming active. This weather system could bring scattered rainfall to various parts of Punjab on April 18 and 19, offering some relief from the intense heat.

As per IMD Chandigarh's daily weather report, Bathinda was the hottest in Punjab on April 13 at 39.3°C. Ludhiana was 35°C, Amritsar was 34.3°C, Patiala was 36.4°C, Pathankot was 34.3°C, etc.
