Railway Rs. 259.44 Crore Loss against Agnipath Protest: What are the Impacts of it?

Agnipath Scheme Protest: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav answered many questions of Rajya Sabha MPs in Rajya Sabha on Friday. Many of these questions were related to the movement against the Agnipath scheme of the Central Government. While responding to these questions on Friday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the House that the railways have suffered a loss of Rs 259.44 crore due to the agitation against the Agnipath scheme.

During this agitation, 2132 trains were cancelled between June 15 and June 23. At present all the trains affected by the agitation are running normally. 

Rs 102.96 crore had to be returned to passengers due to cancelled trains: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the Rajya Sabha in response to a written question that the passengers of the trains which were cancelled due to the Agnipath movement have been refunded the full amount of their tickets, the total amount of which is Rs 102.96 crores.

Responding to another question, the Railway Minister told the House that as per the Constitutional rules, the responsibility for attacks on standing or moving trains always rests with the concerned state as law and order is a state subject.


2 killed, 35 injured during the Agnipath movement: according to the government data, 2 people were killed and 35 people were injured during the agitation against the Agnipath scheme. A total of 2,642 miscreants were also arrested from the railway premises during the agitation. During the demonstration against this new scheme of army recruitment, the maximum damage was done in the states of Bihar and Telangana.

There was a movement across the country against the Agnipath scheme: as soon as the young candidates came to know about the Agnipath scheme brought by the Central Government for recruitment in the Indian Army last month that they would get only 4 years of the job through this scheme, then their anger was on the road and There was an explosion on the railway tracks. This anger took the form of a movement and seeing the horrific scenes of many burning trains had come in front of the country. Due to this movement, the common passengers had to face a lot of inconveniences.
