Ram Janmabhoomi dispute to be settled through mediation; SC refers to mediation committee

Supreme Court as it had suggested on its last hearing that the Ram Janmabhoomi Land dispute must be settled through mediation has assigned 3 mediators to resolve the issue including spiritual leader Sri Sri RaviShankar, Former Supreme Court Judge Justice FM Ibrahim Kalifulla. The mediators will have a meeting with the petitioners at Faziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

The commitee has been given with a time period of one month after which it will submit a progress report to the five judge bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

The three membered committee's third member would be the senior advocate Sriram Panchu and the committee will have the option to add more members if required. The committee will be headed by Justice Khalifulla.

The Supreme Court has been in favour of an out-of-court-settlement through mediation as it is not a matter of land but sentiments and beliefs.
