WHO IS SIDHU MOOSEWALA?
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu alias Sidhu Moosewala was born on June 17, 1993, in Moosewala village in Mansa district.
EDUCATION AND CAREER
Sidhu holds a bachelor's degree in engineering. He studied music in college and afterwards relocated to Canada. He began his career as a songwriter and singer by penning the song "Licence," which was sung by Ninja and launched his career as a songwriter and performer. Moosewala is well-known for his gangster raps and has a large fan base in the millions.
SIDHU MOOSEWALA CONTROVERSIES
Sidhu Moosewala is also noted for being one of Punjab's most divisive musicians. He's been chastised on several times for openly supporting gun culture and praising gangsters in controversial songs.
His song 'Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi,' which was released in September 2019, sparked a debate over a reference to Mai Bhago, an 18th-century Sikh fighter. He was accused of casting a poor light on the Sikh warrior. Later, Moosewala offered an apology.
ARMS ACT CASES
In July 2020, another song, 'Sanju,' sparked controversy. After Sidhu Moosewala was granted bail in an AK47 shooting case, the song was released. In a song shared on social media, he compared himself to actor Sanjay Dutt. After a video recording of him shooting at a firing range in a Barnala village went popular on social media in May 2020, Sidhu Moosewala was charged under the Arms Act. However, he was eventually granted bail by a Sangrur court.
This was not the first time Moosewala had been charged under the Arms Act. In May 2020, another complaint was filed under identical provisions at Dhuri Sadar police station, based on a video recording of Moosewala firing his pistol.
In response to the criminal charges filed against him, "Only real men are prosecuted in criminal cases," Sidhu had added.
Aside from certain radical organisations, Shiromani Akali Dal has hounded Sidhu Moosewala for his controversial songs.
‘MOOSA JATT’ MOVIE: CERTIFICATION DENIED
Moosewala was engaged in another controvery when his film ‘Moosa Jatt’ which was one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, and Punjabi viewers were just about to see it refused by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to authorise its distribution in India.This was the artist's debut film as a lead role.
Sidhu Moosewala has issued an official statement following the film's refusal for release in India. He posted a few of posts on the issue.He also gave reason why the film did not get certification in India.
He said, the film supports farmers who are fighting fo their rights. This is the main reason film did not obtain censor certification in India.
