In response to a video that has gone viral online, in Surrey, Canada, local authorities moved swiftly. The video has horrified the public to no end because it shows people dancing and brandishing weapons. The South Community Response Unit (SCRU) of the Surrey RCMP has opened an official investigation into the situation.
Following the video's emergence, SCRU was able to confirm the filming location and initiate an inquiry under Section 86 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the handling of firearms. The property owner has been contacted as part of this investigation.
The people in the video are people that the RCMP is actively trying to identify. Superintendent Haram Dosage, a Surrey RCMP Community Services Officer, stressed the gravity of the incident by saying, We recognize that the community as a whole is very concerned about this. Our top priority is maintaining public safety, so our officers moved quickly to confiscate the relevant firearms.
To progress the investigation and make sure the matter is handled appropriately, the SCRU intends to work in conjunction with multiple partner agencies. As the authorities keep working, public safety is still their top priority.
