The iconic beauty of Bollywood - Madhubala would have turned 88 if she would have been alive. She was considered a screen goddess for her iconic face and the grace that she carried during her era. The actress still remembers her for her intoxicating smile, vivacious energy and naughty charm. 

On 14th February 1933, Madhubala was born in Delhi to Ataullah Khan and Ayesha Begum and began her career at the tender age of 9 years. 

Madhubala was often addressed as the 'Marilyn Monroe of Indian Cinema’ and was loved for her stellar dance performance, expressions and acting. She graced the screen with her beautiful face, charm and charismatic personality. She played the role of Anarkali in Mughal-E-Azam in 1960, and with that, she raised the bar for acting in the Hindi cinema. The actress featured in some timeless classics as ‘Amar’, ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Barsaat Ki Raat’ and iconic songs like ‘Pyar Kiya to darna kya’, aiye meharban’, ‘acha Ji main hari’ and many more.

The Venus of Indian Cinema died at the age of 36 on February 23 1969, due to prolonged illness. She had a short life and career yet, however, in this small period, she left behind a benchmark that nobody could ever replace. 




In 2008, the legendary actress appeared on a commemorative postage stamp in India, where she is remembered by many as one of the greatest to ever grace the silver screen.
