Jaskaran Singh, the 18th patient, was discharged after being cured.

Wishing the recovered patients a healthy life, state Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said all the people are now a source of inspiration for the corona-affected patients.

He said the health department and the district administration worked day and night for bringing the district out of the red zone.

The minister also praised the residents of SBS Nagar district, previous known as Nawanshahr, and said the curfew restrictions have been followed by them as per the directions of the government.

He said from March 19 to March 26, a total of 18 corona cases came up. It became a challenge to provide quality treatment services to a large number of patients, but medical and paramedical teams had bravely taken care of all patients.

In this regard, True Scoop interviewed SBS Nagar Deputy Commissioner Vinay Bublani to know about the strategy which district followed to make it corona-free.

DC Bublani said we followed the norms and procedures directed by the Governmnet of India. The district administration promptly sealed the area, declared it as containment zone after the first positive case appeared. For sealing, geographical study of the zone was done. In and out points of nearly 15 villages were thoroughly scanned and then sealed.

The next step involved 'contact-listing' during which 450 samples were taken to ensure if the district has not invited community transmission. After receiving reports, 18 people were found positive and were shifted to the Civil Hospital's Isolation Ward.

The third step which emerged as a challenge was how to get patients recovered from the disease. Despite following the protocol as prescribed by ICMR for treatment and medication, we also focused on the sound mental health, nutritious diet and counselling of the patients.

Health authorities took proper care of patients, boosted their morale to set an example that coronavirus can be defeated easily with optimism.

DC Bublani further added that random sampling was also performed in the containment and non-containment zones. Numerous teams were deployed in the containment zones to perform door-to-door survey. They made sure that if anyone is showing syptoms needs to admitted in the isolation ward.

In the non-containment zones, health authorities made sure to disseminate information on coronavirus. Educated each individual about its symptoms and if anyone found symptomatic was tested promptly.

As a precautionary measure, the administration is going to start its second-round of sampling on April 24.

When asked about the Nawanshahar model, he said the credit goes to all the bureaucrats who participated in the battle against deadly coronavirus. They diligently performed their duty, had clear planning and mitigated the risk in the area.
