In a major development, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami on Monday announced his resignation from his post. As per Dainik Bhasker report, SGPC Chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said the reason behind this was the post of Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, which he wrote after terminating the services of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh of Sri Damdama Sahib.
At present, Giani Raghbir Singh is abroad and he shared the post on 13 February after the SGPC's decision. Before resigning, Harjinder Singh Dhami also read the lines of that post and said that the post clearly shows that Giani Raghbir Singh is telling him the reason for removing Giani Harpreet Singh from the post.
The post reads, "The kind of incidents that are happening in the last few days, I am looking at them seriously from every aspect. My heart is extremely saddened by these circumstances. The reason and method of removing Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib from the post is not appropriate at all.
It seemed that an atmosphere was being created against Singh Sahiban in a planned manner only after the decisions taken from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on 2 December 2024 in accordance with Panthic sentiments and traditions. A media trial was conducted against Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh by misrepresenting an 18-year-old family matter. In this regard, as Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib, I had also said at the time of the formation of the inquiry committee by the Shiromani Committee that this is not right. If there is a need to investigate any kind of allegations against any Jathedar Sahib of any Takht Sahib, then it can be done only by Sri Akal Takht Sahib..."
