Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has objected to the comment made by leader of opposition senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi while showing the picture of Guru Nanak Dev Ji during the Parliament session. SGPC chief advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has advised to keep religion and politics separate.
Rahul Gandhi pulled out a picture in which Guru Nanak Dev Ji has one of his hands raised and called it Abhay Mudra. Objection was raised to this in the executive committee meeting of the SGPC. Chief advocate Dhami said that it has no connection with the Sikh sect. The philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji is of Ek Omkar in which Guru Sahib elevated the lowly, who were condemned at one time.
He further said that the teachings of Sikh Gurus should not be made part of political debates. “The teachings of Guru Sahiban should not be made a part of political debate. Often political people by doing this misinterpret the fundamental principles of Guru Sahibs and the interpretation of Gurbani” said Dhami. Often this mingling of the teachings and politics leads to misinterpretation of the fundamental principles of Guru Sahibs and Gurbani.
SGPC also requests the Lok Sabha Speaker that no one should be allowed to commit disrespect in future. Abhay Mudra is not a principle of Guru Sahib. The holy principle is only the Golden Temple. Here no one's caste is considered.
